The aviator glasses from the thirties made a comeback in the Eighties. Many variations have been designed, but the Ray-Ban model with its gold coloured frames was the last words in sunglasses. Polaroids sunglasses were also popular in the Eighties with their polarizing filter. This coating filtered out the UV rays and diminished glare and colour distortion.
In the Eighties, fashion was formal and business-like. Yves Saint Laurent designed a suit for women that in many ways was similar to a men's suit. Jackets had shoulder pads and women wore their hair permed or teased. Small eyeglasses did not suit these grotesque styles; instead, frames tended to be large, severe and primarily angular in shape.
