A veterinary Hospital in the UK has suggested that visors or goggles with sunglass lenses could be beneficial for "very active dogs" or those with specific conditions who enjoy outdoor activities like running on the beach, cycling, or stand-up paddleboarding.

Ms Vojtiskova, the owner of a 14-year-old poodle named Celine, shared her positive experience with canine sunglasses. Celine developed iris atrophy with age, leading to her inability to filter brightness. However, wearing goggles has restored a "normal quality of life" for Celine, according to Ms. Vojtiskova.

The issue was initially noticed when Celine jumped in front of a car one day and started showing signs of discomfort in bright sunlight. The experts at Eastcott Veterinary Hospital explained that Celine's iris had weakened with age, causing her pupil to remain dilated even in bright conditions, resulting in discomfort.

Celine now wears sunglasses whenever she goes outside, and the difference has been remarkable. Ms. Vojtiskova mentioned that her pet understands that the goggles are beneficial. On sunny days, instead of hiding or freezing, Celine can now enjoy her activities like any other dog.

Dr Gilbert, the head of Ophthalmology at Eastcott Referrals, expressed satisfaction that Celine's condition could be managed without resorting to surgery. The sunglasses block UV light and brightness, allowing Celine to resume her normal life.

Ms. Gilbert emphasized that eye protection is suitable for animals in various settings and can even reduce the need for medication in some cases. For instance, German Shepherds with an inflammatory condition called Pannus can experience worsening symptoms due to UV light exposure.

In conclusion, the use of protective eyewear for dogs is considered appropriate, especially for active dogs participating in outdoor activities. It offers a practical solution to minimize discomfort and potential complications associated with certain eye conditions. However at this stage iPOP doest have any glasses that are suitable for our k9 friends...
