LOCS Sunglasses NZ - For the Kiwi Worksite
Some products earn their reputation quietly, over a long time, without much marketing help. LOCS are one of those. They came out of the lowrider and street scenes of East Los Angeles in the eighties, the name is a nod to the Spanish word loco, and the attitude followed accordingly. Bold, uncompromising, built for people who weren't particularly gentle with their gear.
Decades later they've ended up on NZ worksites, which tells you something. Trends come and go. Stuff that actually works sticks around.
Why Tradies Like Them
A construction site is not kind to eyewear. Dust, glare, flying debris, hours of direct sun, most frames aren't designed for that kind of daily punishment. LOCS are. The frames are thick, impact-resistant polycarbonate, not trying to be lightweight or refined, just built to take a knock and keep going.
The wraparound shape and wide temples cut side glare and block wind and dust from the edges. That sounds like a small thing until you've spent a day on an exposed site with standard frames and spent half of it squinting. They sit securely too, no constant sliding or adjusting, which when you're working with your hands matters more than it sounds.
Despite looking substantial, they're actually lighter than you'd expect. Enough flex to avoid pressure points during a long shift. The kind of thing you put on in the morning and stop noticing by smoko.
The Protection Side
Category 3 lenses, UV400, 100% UVA and UVB blocked. That's the baseline for NZ conditions and LOCS clear it comfortably. The dark tint cuts glare without distorting colour too much, which matters if you're reading a site or driving between jobs.
They're not a fashion item that happens to have UV protection bolted on. The protection came first. The look followed from that.
The Range at iPOP
We keep the LOCS range focused on what the style is actually known for, classic black frames, gloss and matte finishes, with a few variations like wood-look arms or small metal details for people who want something slightly different without straying far from the original look. Frame shapes run from bold rectangular to a slightly curved wrap depending on face shape and what you're using them for.
No nonsense, no unnecessary extras. That's sort of the point.
If you want a pair that'll handle real outdoor use without making you think twice about where you put them down, have a look at the LOCS range at iPOP. Affordable enough to keep a spare in the ute. Tough enough that you probably won't need to.
